About Me

gentlesleep

Hello! I am so glad you are here. A little about my background... I have a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies & Psychology from Towson University as well as a Master of Science in Community Counseling. I own Growing Well Counseling in Glastonbury, CT and am a CT Licensed Professional Counselor. I have extensive post-graduate training in Perinatal Mental Health and my counseling practice focuses on all things motherhood, fertility and loss, prenatal and postpartum anxiety, depression, panic, and OCD. So often in my practice I see moms [and dads!] who have been judged, shamed, or chastised for how their baby sleeps, where their baby sleeps, or how long their baby sleeps, yet no one offering these drive-by judgments stops to offer mom helpful guidance! There is no shortage of parenting advice but there is a distinct lack of support, my counseling practice meets some of these needs, however I see a direct connection to wellness and sleep, and by helping you guide your baby to better sleep, I know you can get more sleep and in turn everyone can be well!

When I decided to explore sleep education, I knew from the start that I am an attachment-savvy therapist and mother and had to compile consistent with my personal and professional values. I have read extensive compelling research about early attachment needs and do not believe in allowing children to cry for prolonged periods of time without comfort and support. I wanted to help guide moms and dads in getting more rest [for everyone] without compromising the way they connect want to parent their children. In my therapy practice I always take a holistic view and want to apply the same framework for helping families sleep. We must consider medical reasons for disrupted sleep, support continued breastfeeding where applicable, accommodate safe co-sleeping, and stress the value of meeting attachment needs. Nothing quite like this existed and so I have created a curriculum based off of several sleep theories, grounded in biology and human development research and with the support and expertise of interdisciplinary experts. I can't wait to share that with you.

On a personal note, I live in Central Connecticut with my husband, our three children and our three dogs. We love to spend weekends down on the shoreline or at a local playground, we love to grow our yearly veggie garden and also love canning- we make a berry jam like no other!
